Canoeing down the Sella

The departure point for canoeing down the River Sella is the town of Arriondas, from the same bridge that the ‘piraguas’ start from on the day of the famous international competition.  This activity takes an estimated three to four hours, allowing for stops and rests.  Before the trip, a trainer from Montañas del Norte conducts a brief course on how to handle the paddle and the canoe.

The canoes are stable and easy to manage and are single-seater (K1), two-seater (K2) or three-seater (suitable for two adults and a child).  Odd-numbered groups are given individual canoes: should you require something different, please confirm this in advance.

Participants should bring a change of clothing and footwear, sandals, bathing costume, sun cream and a towel.

Routes

Choose from various stretches of the river for canoeing down the Sella:

• Toraño: 7 km in aprox. two hours.
• Normal: 14 km in aprox. three and a half hours.
• Ribadesella: the same course as the Descenso Internacional del Sella.
• Children’s course: 3 km between the bridges of Llovio and Ribadesella.
