Descending ravines in Asturias

Canyoning, or descending ravines, is a very exciting activity. Participants make their way down-river without a craft, accompanied by a guide, or monitor, who explains how to proceed along each stretch.

The rivers in which this form of adventure tourism is practised in Asturias have a pronounced variation in levels. Waterfalls and chutes are frequently encountered and these call for jumping and abseiling.

The duration of the descent is usually about four hours, depending on the ravine chosen.

We have descents of various levels of difficulty, from beginners’ (suitable for children 12 years and above) up to ‘speleological ravines’ (including underground water passages), in rivers of various districts of eastern Asturias (Amieva, Ponga, Cabrales, Peñamellera Alta, etc.).
